About Part 1

Part 1 is the online, self-paced portion of the FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food Version 2.0 Blended Participant Course . The course is developed and provided directly by the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance.

Part 1 introduces the primary concepts of the Preventive Controls for Human Food rule and prepares participants for the live, instructor-led Part 2 course.

Participants work through 16 chapters and complete knowledge checks throughout the course. Each chapter must be completed in order.

Part 1 Must Be Completed Before Part 2

After completing all Part 1 chapters and knowledge checks, participants receive an Enrollment Ticket. This ticket must be presented to the Lead Instructor before attending Part 2.

Understand the primary elements of a risk-based Food Safety Plan.

Verification and Records

Review monitoring, corrective actions, verification, validation, and recordkeeping.

Recall Plans

Review the purpose and basic components of a facility recall plan.

Time Limits

  • Participants have six months to complete Part 1.
  • After completing Part 1, participants have an additional six months to complete Part 2.
  • If Part 2 is not completed within that timeframe, the Enrollment Ticket expires and Part 1 must be retaken.

Continue to Part 2 After Completing This Course

Completion of Part 1 alone does not complete the blended participant course. Participants must also complete the live, instructor-led Part 2 course to receive the FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food Version 2.0 Participant Certificate of Training.
